Ingrid has an incredible knack of telling people’s stories, a skill that goes well beyond the airwaves of the many years she spent in broadcast media. She currently works full-time as a PR & Communications professional, while learning about image consulting at the Academy of Image Mastery as she prepares for her AICI CIC certification in readiness for her dream career as a professional image consultant.

She passionately shows the world she is ready to engage professionally and to answer online queries on image consulting and beauty tips. Social media provides her with an active channel to find, keep and engage target audiences.

Professional imaging has always fascinated me. I have personally witnessed how people’s lives and careers are changed for the better by their efforts to manage their branding beyond appearances. It’s not enough to dress well and look great; you also need to carry yourself with confidence. I too, have picked up tips from image consultants. They consistently remind me that I can gain a competitive edge by projecting a positive impression of myself.
I started my career in broadcast media with multiple roles such as deejay, newscaster and tv producer. However, I have recently shifted to public relations and communications.
I’m glad that this job allows me to apply and see image consulting from another perspective. I take pride in strengthening our corporate image through effective communication and PR efforts. My role requires me to get representatives ready for media appearances.
I had always wanted to do a formal course in image consulting, and it was a dilemma when it came to which training institute to register with, as picking the right institute takes time. While the process was lengthy, the choice was clear once I did my due diligence.
I recognised that AIM commits to keeping its training materials in top shape. Christina also displays a great deal of professionalism, mixed with a wonderful sense of humour.
As an Asian, I have found the other courses offered in Europe and the US, while they may be great courses, are less suitable for my purpose. If I wanted a solid experience in Asia, why settle for anything less than the best.
I’ve spent many years colouring my hair in different light shades because they never go out of style. But at AIM, I discovered for the first time that dark hair colour trends also defined my best facial feature and complimented my skin tone. Beyond this, being in training at AIM is one of the most enriching personal growth experiences. I saw so much more that I could be and do in applying my new image consulting skills to help other people become more confident.
The moment I returned home, I overhauled my entire closet. The best thing to come out from my wardrobe reconstruction was I finally developed a personal style. Next, I role-played with friends as I went through all the lessons taught at AIM. On the social media front, I also revamped content on my websites to make it more informative and enlightening.
The course was not just grounded in theory, but it has also helped train my eye to see colours differently. I realise that colours present a message of their own. I can now confidently recommend the right colour for clients to wear based on their skin tone. Just like with make-up and hair, the key to finding your most flattering colours starts with skin tone.
The amount of disruption arose out of COVID-19 is severely distressing. But some of the disruptions come with an unexpected reward for me. I received rave reviews from numerous friends who benefited from my advice on the use of colours to create a sense of style and personality that’s as unique as each of them. It means so much to me. When we are willing to pay attention to the feedback we receive, we can determine how we are doing.
It’s worth the investment. You can expect to get so much more than all the things you can find online and in books. Christina will arm you with the tools and techniques necessary to enhance your market visibility during this time of sweeping change.
I should have the courage and permission from AIM to blog my whole experience and conduct interviews while I was undergoing training.
After the course, my initial plans to offer a holistic approach to personal and professional development has become even more apparent. I have gained more confidence to add value to clients I look forward to helping especially female executives who lack the confidence in their career advancement.
